JULIUS CAESAR

by Shay Martin

A few words of wisdom to the young, in the vein of Hall and Oates' "Maneater." Where that song concerns a warning of a particular woman, this work is the same for a particular man.

O here she comes

She’s a maneater

— “Maneater,” Hall and Oates

He might show up ‘midst strife,
When great power and hour unite;
It won’t be long once you know that it’s too late.
Smiling and deigning,
He’s all hugs now, but your kneel will take its place.

He’ll know the time is right
‘Cause he’ll have named the night;
Very words will change, from complaints to his dictates.
Waving and saving,
The land’s freed weight, but what of future straits?

O here he comes;
Watch out, World, he’ll eat you up.
O here he comes:
He’s Julius Caesar.
