Robert Brammer, the liberal-crusader mayor of Austin, has just launched a longshot bid to become governor of Texas. It’s a tough fight. His opponent, an evangelical minister turned politician, is far ahead in the polls. His staff, a collection of professional political operatives, tech entrepreneurs, and wide-eyed idealists, is frequently at odds. To help, Brammer makes a strange decision: he hires a wizard.

Ian Liath is a field operative for the Gray Hat Corporation, an international wizard consulting firm that provides guidance to CEOs, politicians, and other leaders of the modern world. They are the inheritors of ancient wisdom and magic, but when Ian arrives in Austin, he is met with unexpected challenges. In addition to everything the campaign already faces, there are dark forces after him.

Through the chaos, Ian and the team work together to establish Brammer as a force to reckon with and win over the votes of Texans. But they are up against dark magic and monsters, flash floods, and hurricanes. Most importantly, election night is fast approaching, and they are barely within the margin of error…
